Rehabilitation at Sacred Heart
Rehabilitation Medicine is that branch of medicine that uses a mutidisciplinary team to return the individual to their maximum level of function after illness or injury. This is done through excercise, practice of daily routines and psychological support. The individual and their family can be involved in the process.
Inpatient & Outpatient Services
The Sacred Heart Rehabilitation Unit provides 7 day a week inpatient and 5 day a week outpatient rehabilitation through a dynamic multidisciplinary team approach. The inpatient unit is a 27-bed ward, located within the Sacred Heart Building. The unit provides rehabilitation to patients with the following conditions:
- Orthopaedic - fractured hips, joint replacement, major trauma, arthritis etc
- Neurological - stroke, Parkinsons desease, MS, neuropathy etc
- Cancer
- Transplant - heart, lung, bone marrow, stem cell etc
- Deconditioning - following prolonged bed rest or hospitalisation
- Mild and moderate head injury

The Rehabilitation team work closely with the individual to ensure a planned and safe return to the community.
The rehabilitation Consultative team provide a service to St Vincent’s Public and Private Hospitals. All of the services cover patients living in the SESIAHS but also accept referrals from surrounding areas subject to clinical assessment.

| Meal Times | Breakfast 8.00am - 8.30am Lunch 12noon - 12.25pm Dinner 6.00pm - 6.25pm |
| Meals are served in the Patient Dining Room. Patients who are physically unable to go to the Dining Room, or for infection control reasons, will be served in their rooms. |
