
OT at St Vincent's Hospital
At St Vincent’s Hospital there are seven full time and two part time occupational therapists as well as an occupational therapy assistant.
Inpatients and those receiving treatment at outpatient clinics can access the Occupational Therapy Service.
The following departments are serviced by a dedicated occupational therapist:
- Orthopaedics
- Hands and plastics
- Cardiac and cardiac surgery
- Oncology
- Haematology
- Neurology and neurosurgery
- Stroke unit and gerontology
- Immunology
- Respiratory
In all other areas, patients needing occupational therapy intervention must be referred via fax to the OT Department.
These areas include emergency, vascular medicine and surgery, renal and respiratory, gastroenterology, colorectal surgery, head and neck surgery.
Referring to occupational therapy
Referrals must be made on an occupational therapy referral form and faxed to the OT Department on (02) 8383 2432. The form must include the patient’s name, ward and bed number, diagnosis, expected date of discharge and type of OT intervention required as well as the referrers name and contact information. All referrals will be triaged and seen by the first available occupational therapist.
Outpatient services include plastics surgery and respiratory
A referral from a General Practitioner or specialist is needed to see an occupational therapist as an outpatient. Respiratory outpatients may self refer to the OT Department.
