OT at Sacred Heart Palliative Care

The Sacred Heart Palliative Care Service offers a holistic multidisciplinary approach to caring for people with a disease that is no longer responsive to curative treatment.

There are 50 inpatient beds, a community service and a day centre.

Palliative Care is staffed by two full time occupational therapists, one full time diversional therapist, and a part time music and art therapist.

One occupational therapist provides a service to the inpatients wards and Day Centre and one therapist provides a service to patients who are referred to the Community Palliative Care Team. Patients must be under the care of the Palliative Care Service to be seen.

The diversional therapist facilitates recreational and leisure activities within the Day Centre and inpatient wards. The music therapist and art therapist facilitate music and art based therapies with patients in the Day Centre or on the wards.
