Academic Unit in Palliative Care

Recently established, the Academic Unit in Palliative Care secured funding from a consortium of partners including St Vincents & Mater Health Sydney, the University of New South Wales, University of Notre Dame, Calvary Health Care and the Cancer Institute New South Wales to create the Cunningham Centre for Palliative Care based at Sacred Heart.

The Unit plays an important role in the development of palliative care services throughout New South Wales with the aim of providing leadership and direction specifically in the areas of research, education, practice and quality. Academic Chairs in Palliative Medicine and Palliative Nursing will be appointed in late 2007.

A key objective of the Unit is to improve the quality and standing of palliative care in New South Wales.
