Research Office

The Research Office is the first point of contact for those investigators wishing to undertake research involving humans. The Research Office will provide assistance and advice on most aspects of research such as funding, regulatory issues, policies, guidelines, procedures, intellectual property and development of applications for the Human Research Ethics Committee. Referral to other staff with the necessary expertise will be arranged as appropriate.

The Research Office is the secretariat of the St Vincent’s Hospital Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) and the St Vincent’s Hospital Intellectual Property Committee. The secretariats of the Animal Experimentation Ethics Committee and Biosafety Committee are located in the Garvan Institute of Medical Research.

The research ethics arrangements have been established to assist researchers to comply with the provisions of the NHMRC National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research. This Statement and other relevant documents can be downloaded from the NHMRC web site.
