Delta Goodrem joins Sisters to raise funds for new Cancer Centre

ImageSisters Helen Clarke and Leone Wittmack have raised well in excess of $160,000 for the new Garvan St Vincent’s Campus Cancer Centre… by walking from Dubbo to Darlinghurst!

The two brave nuns trekked over 400 kilometres across 13 long days… and through rain, hail, shine and extremely cold temperatures, were constantly reminded of the purpose of their journey. Well-wishers along the way shared profound stories and encouraging words as the sisters passed through seven communities.

The inspirational journey concluded with a welcoming guard of honour outside St Vincent’s Hospital. Renowned singer/songwriter and cancer survivor, Delta Goodrem then joined the tireless sisters and other Hospital staff for a community fun run/walk through Centennial Park.

The crucial funds raised by these two adventurers and their support team will add a welcome boost to the establishment of a new $100 million Cancer Centre within the St Vincent’s Research Precinct. The new Centre will house clinicians, researchers and patients all under one roof, facilitating the development of more effective approaches to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

Patients will be able to receive clinical care in an appropriate environment with input from the key professional groups, allowing for informed, evidence-based decision making by patients, their carers and clinicians.
